Ever since I was a little girl, my father taught me the importance of “facing my fears…”
Anna Clabough is an East Tennessee native who discovered her passion for monster makeup and special effects through an unusual path—fear. As a child with a vivid and overactive imagination, she was deeply afraid of monsters. Instead of letting those fears control her, she faced them head-on by literally giving them faces. Through makeup and special effects, she transformed her anxieties into art, turning fear into fascination.
Her professional journey began early, working in haunted houses at just twelve years old. Over the years, she honed her skills in performance, makeup, and production. For the past sixteen seasons, she has enjoyed being a part of Frightmare Manor, her home haunt. There, she wears many hats: actor, prop and character producer, scene developer, lighting assistant, prop repair, and FX makeup artist for the cast. Her dedication and creativity have helped shape the immersive and terrifying experiences that guests return for year after year.
Beyond the world of haunted attractions, she is also a preschool teacher who recognizes the magic of dramatic play and the joy children find in dressing up. Her love for Halloween and theatrical productions extends far beyond October. Throughout the year, she brings creativity to life through face painting, party theming, and decorations for all ages, ensuring that the spirit of imagination and transformation is always alive.
Sally’s Toybox is a testament to the power of creativity, resilience, and passion. By facing her fears, Anna not only found her calling but also built a career that inspires others to embrace imagination, artistry, and the magic of transformation.
